Opinions for the manga:

There were some pretty intense manga this week. The weirdest, by far, was Kushiyaki P. If small animals being dismembered bothers you, you should probably give this one a pass. 17sai is actually pretty engrossing, but, from the title, I'm guessing the ending is going to be horrifically sad. It's interesting to see a crime story from the point of view of an unwilling perpetrator. Jun to Ai was sort of like a teen romance novel (but with a couple of scenes of fairly explicit sex). A lot more time is spent on talking about feelings and "will they-won't they" end up together than on any sexual content, though. Paradise Paradox mixes some common tropes. There's the over-enthusiastic lesbian girl looking for her soulmate, and the whole idea of fairy-tale land portals. It came together into an entertaining story, though. Enma Gavel was the most generic one I read this week. It was pretty standard demon-fighting shounen.

Uchuu Kyoudai looked like a very well-written story. I've read that it won the Shogakukan Manga Award. Kaze Yori Hayaku was less action-packed than one might expect from a kendo manga. So far, it seems like there is going to be a lot more focus on the characters and the story itself than on actual kendo fighting.

Great series this week. Check them out Tiny Prinius - comedy where the last human alive is trapped in a toy body. Travels through space with his crew consisting of a robot maid and a random ghost. How cool is that. Nagisa chan no kareshi - romantic comedy. it's actually more comedy than love than you might think. well worth giving a try. Syura no mon - loved reading the chapters. the storyline was solid, the characters were very developed and just a great series. Wouldnt expect anything less from such a great and famous author. Definitely pick this up.

Kaizou Ningen Rogii - android super humans fighting against each other. cant get any better than that. Sorta has that Trigun feel to it. Like a Bitch - sexy forbidden relationship between siblings. Katsuko Otsukae Shimasu - maid for a powerful man who goes on special missions related to the school. Sexy action scenes will keep you reading. My Pure Lady - definitely for the mature crowd. Lots of relationship and sex topics in this.

As for me:
17sai. Joshikousei Kankin Satsujin sounds good, although tragic like tethy said... Jun to Ai sounds like an interesting romance story. Nagisa-chan no Kareshi sounds like a cute fluffy manga that'd make you go d'aww~ I'd check out Uchuu Kyoudai since people rarely ever get to follow their childhood dreams and get to do what they dreamed of doing when they were children...

Infinite Stratos - most favorite this week. Sci-Fi mixed with harlem type story line. The actual basis of the storyline (the mobile suit) seems to take a backburner to the love triangle theme so approach it as a romantic series. Tonari no Kashiwagi san - The incredibly good artwork was the first thing i noticed here. The storyline is ok. I would like to see the pace get faster so we can see where the author is going with this story. Maid wa Miracle - Guy gets 2 hot maids that will do any of his bidding. So like any dude, he smashes them. Straight and simple.

As for me:
The only one that sounds interesting to me is Tonari no Kashiwagi-san. Hopefully it isn't a fanservicey moe manga...

Sumikko seems like its going to be a very thoughtful, philosophical story, and I'd like to see where it goes from here. Oshie Syllabus was pretty cute. It is slightly different from the usual setup, since the strange magic girl manifests for a teenage girl instead of a boy. I actually enjoyed Dream Club. Usually I dislike the "tsundere" type manga, but I thought they showed Mian's debilitating insecurity pretty well. Also, she was a dynamic character who wanted to become a better person. Channel wa sono mama could develop into something interesting. The other three are very special interests manga, by which I mean they were very information-based. Read Suugaku girl if you really want to read about math, Homecenter Tenko if crafting stuff interests you (though there was a bit more of a story in this one), and Kyoto Uzumasa Koushinkyoku if you're really into Fukumoto Seizou and historical Japanese cinema.

"Kicking off the new year with some good series!! Little Busters - spinoff series off of an already popular game/anime/manga. Sorta a new plot line of video game world. Great for people who already know the characters AND people just picking it up for the first time. Kazoku Sentai Knock 5 - family of superhero. Lots of these kind of plot lines even in the US main stream media (No Ordinary Family). Should check it out. Torokeru Tokkoujo - highlights the ups and downs of a welder's life. Funny in a sad and a little pathetic way? Oresama to Kooni - erotic hentai series. Sorta ironic since the main character can't have sex but there is lots of it in this. Kurogane - no relation to another series with the same name (as far as i know). Great drawing with a cliche but good story line. would like to see it picked up and serialized."

None of the manga really popped out to me. I agree with tethysdust and think that Sumikko looks good. I guess I'd try out Suugaku Girl (math geek~)... I'm sure someone will jump on and scanlate Oresama to Kooni quick since it's very ecchi...

Opinions for the manga:

There were some pretty intense manga this week. The weirdest, by far, was Kushiyaki P. If small animals being dismembered bothers you, you should probably give this one a pass. 17sai is actually pretty engrossing, but, from the title, I'm guessing the ending is going to be horrifically sad. It's interesting to see a crime story from the point of view of an unwilling perpetrator. Jun to Ai was sort of like a teen romance novel (but with a couple of scenes of fairly explicit sex). A lot more time is spent on talking about feelings and "will they-won't they" end up together than on any sexual content, though. Paradise Paradox mixes some common tropes. There's the over-enthusiastic lesbian girl looking for her soulmate, and the whole idea of fairy-tale land portals. It came together into an entertaining story, though. Enma Gavel was the most generic one I read this week. It was pretty standard demon-fighting shounen.

Uchuu Kyoudai looked like a very well-written story. I've read that it won the Shogakukan Manga Award. Kaze Yori Hayaku was less action-packed than one might expect from a kendo manga. So far, it seems like there is going to be a lot more focus on the characters and the story itself than on actual kendo fighting.

Great series this week. Check them out Tiny Prinius - comedy where the last human alive is trapped in a toy body. Travels through space with his crew consisting of a robot maid and a random ghost. How cool is that. Nagisa chan no kareshi - romantic comedy. it's actually more comedy than love than you might think. well worth giving a try. Syura no mon - loved reading the chapters. the storyline was solid, the characters were very developed and just a great series. Wouldnt expect anything less from such a great and famous author. Definitely pick this up.

Kaizou Ningen Rogii - android super humans fighting against each other. cant get any better than that. Sorta has that Trigun feel to it. Like a Bitch - sexy forbidden relationship between siblings. Katsuko Otsukae Shimasu - maid for a powerful man who goes on special missions related to the school. Sexy action scenes will keep you reading. My Pure Lady - definitely for the mature crowd. Lots of relationship and sex topics in this.

As for me:
17sai. Joshikousei Kankin Satsujin sounds good, although tragic like tethy said... Jun to Ai sounds like an interesting romance story. Nagisa-chan no Kareshi sounds like a cute fluffy manga that'd make you go d'aww~ I'd check out Uchuu Kyoudai since people rarely ever get to follow their childhood dreams and get to do what they dreamed of doing when they were children...

If you are able to overcome the negativity inside you and win against yourself, you will be able to hit the target. Initially, Amahiko was unable to hit the target because of the demon inside him, but when he was able to face his mistakes and own up to it, he turned out to be an archer with a lot of potential. From that day on, he changed his vows to never lose against himself ever again.

Mikasa Sanekiyo, formerly of the Sakune family, was adopted by a family after his parents and grandparents passed away. His older brother-in-law, Mitsukiyo, is already an accomplished military commander and Sanekiyo looks up dearly to him for moral and emotional guidance. Following in his footsteps, Sanekiyo is accepted into the navy academy as the top chair of his class. Little does he know how discriminatory the Akitsu are against the other two races and how hard the training is going to be. Sanekiyo has to learn how to be a great leader and overcome these obstacles if he plans to lead the navy fleet someday.

In order to build a sense of family in her new environment, Harumi needs to find a way to get her to open up. He finds the answer in lunch boxes. When Harumi was young, Miya had fixed his daily lunch, just as she later had for her own daughter. This slender thread will connect them both to the memory of Miya and to each other.

Opinions for the manga:

I really enjoyed a lot of the manga this week. Kimi no Knife might be my favorite. The art is pretty, and I really liked the story so far. It's the kind of story I tend to be drawn to. Akaneko and Hiyori Biyori were both fairly funny. I preferred Hiyori Biyori, just because it was adorable. I really liked that both of them had situational humor, not humor that was based on the characters being awful people. Takasugi-san ke no obentou had a little too much detail about food shopping and cooking for me, but it seemed like it could be a touching story.

From vyc:

Soukai Kessen - a weird combination of military and otaku (nekomimi). More serious and less comedic. Willing to see how it progresses. Sajitari - one shot on shounen jump. has lots of potential and hope it gets picked up for a series. want to see how it turns out, character development and what not.

As for me:
Only two really piqued my interest this week. Hiyori Biyori gives me a Yotsubato vibe (a manga I highly recommend people to read if you like slice of life) so I'd be willing to check this out. Kimi no Knife looks especially interesting since it deals with how a regular person may deal with the decision to kill someone to protect their own secret. With 2 chapters already scanlated, I will definitely check it out~

The only one that interested me this time was Billionaire Girl. The characters seemed very believable and sympathetic to me. I get the feeling that a romance might develop somewhere down the road.

Had lots of fun reading through the series this week. Big range from comedy to romance to drama to action and mystery. Sakurada-San - erotic series. sorta like a forbidden love thing going on. very sexy. High Score Girl - Author focuses on very specific games and makes them funny. Loved it when the author was talking about being really cheesy and low-life when using specific characters in Street Fighter II. Kyou Kara Hitman - best series this week. Started in 2005 and has multiple volumes and for a good reason. Great storyline with adult violence and sexiness. Yashikoh Shodai Seitokai - romantic comedy with surprisingly great artwork. I really liked how the characters looked in this one. Hopefully the storyline progresses just as good.

Living Dead - zombie girlfriend sort of comedy. Pretty funny and sorta makes fun of other zombie movies. Fudanshifuru - sequel to a successful series. Now the characters are in high school and the same drama/romance that happened there is about to resurface. The main character is refreshing and the illustrations are great. Melty Blood X - based on a extremely popular game. The main characters are not the same in the manga series but the comedy aspect along with the main story line makes it good. Tsunami Chuu ihou - funny comedy. The stories are short but I actually Lol'd at some scenes. Saru - very dramatic and mysterious. Ancient monkey monsters, mysterious organizations, black magic, historical references. Overall great series and hope it stays strong. Kimi to Boku no Ashiato - favorite series this week. Very dramatic and touching stories. Made me sentimental at times. The main story line is a mystery and you really keep reading to find out what really happened / happens to Aki and how her sister gets involved in the situation. Sorta like they tell you a part of the future and you see how it develops to that.

As for me:
I'd like to read Billionaire Girl - the art looks pretty decent and the storyline sounds nothing like anything out there. I'm sure if you're into video games from the 90's and beyond, then High Score Girl would be the manga for you. Kyou Kara Hitman sounds like a fun gag manga. If you're looking for a gender bender, then P-Ken might be for you. I like the series Fudanshism so I hope to see Fudanshifull! get scanlated as well. Kimi to Boku no Assistant -Time Travel Kasuga-Kenkyuusyo- sounds intriguing. Living Dead! sounds funny and it's only 4 chapters long so it should be a quick read - hopefully someone will scanlate it since it's so short...

Dragonism - has a pretty cool concept and has a lot of room to grow. I want to see more different kinds of dragons. Hasabe san no iru yakyuubu - a sports manga with a little twist. A mix of comedy, but keeps true to the game of baseball. Interesting series.

As for me:
Not much interested me this week. Akuma Teki Shoujo sounds interesting, although I've seen one or two mangas with the same basic premise. Hasebe-san no Iru Yakyuubu sounds pretty funny and that cover looks hilarious - it really DOES look like the girl is in love with baseball equipment. XD

"Koroshiya-san was pretty funny. The Haruki Selection appears to be simply a subset of the Koroshiya-san strips. Some of the jokes are very sexual in nature, so beware! Also, Tonnura-san is incredibly weird. I think it's the strangest manga I've read in a while."

Two series this week that I really enjoyed. First one is K2. Apparently a sequel to an already accomplished series about a medical surgeon who helps people with their illness. Has the feel of a modern day BlackJack if anyone is familiar with the old series by Tezuka Osamu. A great read. Second is Kintoki. Drawn by the famous author Toriyama Akira (Dragon Ball if you didnt know). Hopefully it does get picked up and the series continues. The story sounds and looks familiar. Not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing but anything from Toriyama sensei can't be bad.

As for me:
Suzuri Shikkou Chuu seems a little interesting due to the fact that there's a bear that goes to school. XD Yomidoki might be good for a cute short romance one-shot.

My favorite of this week's is Imuri, a science fiction adventure tale. The beginning of the story sort of reminded me of Dune, and the artwork is really interesting (kind of a line art style). Also, Akuma no Ikenie is the one to pick if you want your reading to include a lot of scantily clad/naked girls.

From vyc:

Asashine - very adult/violent manga series featuring top assassins fighting each other. I love it so far and cant wait to see more chapters. Zettai Harem & Happy Girl - lots of full blown sex scenes. Again a warning, it's mature content. Gotta say, pretty hot though....

As for me:
Akuma no Ikenie sounds like a mix between Princess Lucia, Itsuka Tenma no Kuro-Usagi and Rosario to Vampire. If you're looking for a new ecchi supernatural series, this series would be perfect for you. I'd be interested in reading Asashine - a battle between assassins sounds interesting AND it's from the mangaka who wrote Hellsing and Drifters. The last series I'd want to check out is Pariya-san wa Otoshigoro since it's from the mangaka who brought us Emma and it looks like it has the characters from her latest series, Otoyome Gatari, a series I highly recommend reading.

However, the real estate agent accidentally double booked the apartment and Tomoki ends up sharing the room with a gorgeous female alien, Yuuri Myua. Myua, comfortable with her body, loves being naked, which bothers and excites Tomoki at the same time. Myua is here for a secret mission regarding Tomoki as his DNA is an extremely rare strand, which gives him the ability to mate with any species of aliens. If that wasn’t enough, his offspring would have incredibly high abilities.

Tomoki has to deal with a more than eager roommate and aliens after his DNA. As if living alone as a teenager wasn’t hard enough!

On the light side of the spectrum this week is Nagomi-san. I found it to be really cute and funny. On the darker side is Destroy & Revolution. The art style was out of the ordinary, and I'm really curious to see where they go with this idea.

Great series this week. Tadaima Shinryakuchuu - a little romantic ecchi comedy. pretty funny and the love interests are pretty cool. Kamome Chance - a heartwarming story that is unlike any other series i have read. The jokes are subtle but good. Each character has so much room to develop and the overall moral of the story is great. Definitely a must read. Poh - one shot but hopefully it gets picked up since it has so much potential to become a long series. Would love to see more martial arts styles and how the adventure develops.
